Help For The Cold & Flu Season
snowWe have reached that time of year again, the cold and flu season.  Except this year everyone is little more nervous about spreading germs than usual because of the H1N1 virus.  Tara and I have some guidelines we usually try to follow and we thought we might share them with you.  

  •  Lots of Vitamin C everyday.  We get this by eating fruit and taking supplements.  We take 15,000 - 30,000 mg a day when we are feeling a little under the weather.  And 2000 mg as a daily supplement. 
  • Turmeric - If you have visited us at the any of the shows this year then you know we can’t say enough about Turmeric.  We use the powdered version in our food; in almost everything we cook..everything.  And we also take supplements in capsules, .  If you eat mustard….you eat turmeric!  Turmeric is what manufacturer use to color mustard yellow.  But it has antibacterial properties.  Cool huh?  Please see links below from wiki.
  • Garlic and Onions save the day.  We eat a ton of garlic and onions.  If eating garlic is not an option consider taking the odorless tablets. 
  • Keep your hands away from your eyes and mouth.  And wash your hands with non-antibacterial soap.  The over use of antibacterial products is becoming part of the problem not the solution.  Please see links below from the Center of Disease Control.
  • And of course all the things that we all know…get plenty of rest, get some exercise, reduce your stress level, eat good natural organic foods (not processed foods), and eat your greens! 

Sounds like advice from mom’s right?  Take it to heart.  Stay healthy and your help keep your family healthy by making some “good for you” choices!

Tara and I use different ways to keep ourselves healthy during this time of year.  We eat lots (and I mean lots) of chicken soup.  We wondered the other day if it was really the chicken that was making us feel better or if it was all the onions, garlic, and hot peppers we put in the soup.  I made a pot the other night that set my tongue on fire…whew!!  But getting back to the chicken idea…I tend to believe it has something to do with the chicken.  Tara depends on her Vitamin C.  I depend on my Boiron Oscillococcinum.  If I feel any discomfort, I pop those little homepathic pellets under my tongue.  I will let you Google Boiron Osceillococcinum if you really want to know what’s in it…you might not take it if I tell you, but it’s kind of like chicken!  Boiron has some great products so check them out.
